Acupuncture, Pain Management & Back Pain

I recently gave a lecture with another doctor, a pain management specialist, at Jupiter Medical Center. Many of the areas I treat with acupuncture are the same areas used for pain management procedures. Intervertebral discs, for example, are common sites for both  disciplines. Most interestingly, acupuncture affects the same nerve receptors as opioid medications.  As a result, acupuncture can help to reduce the amount of these strong pain mecications. Acupuncture is synergistic with pain management procedures.
